Smilies Themer Toolbar

IMPORTANT: due to my job, I’m now too busy to maintain my plugins.

This plugin has been abandoned!

If you are a developer and would like to fork, feel free to do so (under the GPLv3 license). No need to contact me.

Smilies Themer Toolbar provides a toolbar to easily add custom smilies to comments.

It integrates with Smilies Themer plugin, and therefore requires it.

You can change your smilies theme in your blog, and the toolbar is automagically updated!

Installation

  • Download and install Smilies Themer plugin (required)
  • Download Smilies Themer Toolbar
  • Extract the files in the .zip archive, and upload them (including subfolders) to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  • Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  • Enjoy!

Note: if you like the smilies theme in this page, you can download it here.

Theme integration

By default, Smilies Themer Toolbar is placed after the comments form, but if you want to put it in a nicer position, don’t worry, it isn’t that difficult.

Edit your theme and put this code where you want to show the toolbar:

<?php if (function_exists('sm_toolbar_show')) sm_toolbar_show();?>

@MILE:

it does display the toobar below the comment box and when you click on a smiley it inserts it into the comment box — but only as text…!

Sorry, that is not going to change, I can’t do anything about it :-/

it remains text and is not being transferred into a graphical smiley…

Hmmm, what’s goin’ on? I’ve just commented on your site, and everything is working fine for me…
What browser are you using? I’ll test some browsers as soon as possibile.
And can you try to comment when you aren’t logged in? :-S

I’m using the newest version of Safari, which is 3.1.2 now…

Well, I tried it without being logged in, and of all the smileys I inserted only one actually showed up…!? See here:

http://www.nitewing.de/gfx/Bild_1-20080701-044158.jpg

That’s kinda weird…!? Also it should work no matter whether I am logged in or not, right…?
How else would I reply to comments otherwise…?

Anyway, I’ll try other browsers…but since most my friends are Mac users it should work with Safari…especially since I wanted to use it in my other blog as well, which is mostly focussed on Mac subjects…

But of course I don’t want to bother you…!! If it’s not possible to get it to work, I’ll have to accept that…

That’s really strange! As you can see on your blog, I’ve commented with some browsers (Opera 9.5, FF3, IE7, and hopefully soon Safari…), and everything is working right, the smilies show up… I need more testing…

Wow, that really IS strange…!! =-O

I just don’t get it, I tried Safari and FF3 and Flock2 so far — all with the same result, which is that only a few smileys show up…! (No difference if I’m logged in or not)

Could this be some weird Mac Win problem…?!?

Anyway, thanks again for your support…!!

BTW, I noticed that 2 of the smileys _never_ show up for me, not even in your test or the toobar below:

http://www.nitewing.de/gfx/Bild_2-20080701-155544.jpg

But that’s probably another problem…so, never mind…

EDIT: I also tried it with Navigator 9 now — and this time it actually worked…!?!

Okay, one more thing: I disabled ‘TinyMCEcomments’ for a test and your toolbar works just fine with all browsers…! So it’s definitely got something to do with the combination of the two plugins, I would say…!?

Still I don’t understand why it would work on some systems (like yours) and not on others (like mine) — that’s pretty weird…!

@BaseGuardian:
As I can see, the author of that package disabled many smileys.
To re-enable them, you have to edit the file:

/wp-content/plugins/smilies-themer/Julianus/package-config.php

and uncomment the smilies (i.e. delete line 40 and 71).
Then save, and upload that file again to your server.

@Jannes:
Why do you need more than one comment box in a page? 😛

I’d like my frontpage to have a certain flow. I want my visitors to be able to read/add comments to my articles and not go to the single page view.

I know that’s a killer to any search engine rating I might get, but hey, I write for fun.
