Smilies Themer Toolbar provides a toolbar to easily add custom smilies to comments.
It integrates with Smilies Themer plugin, and therefore requires it.
You can change your smilies theme in your blog, and the toolbar is automagically updated!
Installation
- Download and install Smilies Themer plugin (required)
- Download Smilies Themer Toolbar
- Extract the files in the .zip archive, and upload them (including subfolders) to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory
- Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
- Enjoy!
Note: if you like the smilies theme in this page, you can download it here.
Theme integration
By default, Smilies Themer Toolbar is placed after the comments form, but if you want to put it in a nicer position, don’t worry, it isn’t that difficult.
Edit your theme and put this code where you want to show the toolbar:
<?php if (function_exists('sm_toolbar_show')) sm_toolbar_show();?>

Thanks for the plugin!
But I’m having some issues. The smileys work fine in my comments since I installed the toolbar, but not in my posts. Only some of the smiley’s show up, but not all of them. Also, is there supposed to be a way to easily add them while writing a post, because I don’t see it in either the visual editor or html editor (unless this is a feature that doesn’t exist yet.)
Oh an I’m using WP 2.6.2.
Sorry, I just wanted to update what I said in my above comment. Just read back in the comments a bit and realized something – I see now that there IS supposed to be the toolbar in the admin as well when writing posts. But I definitely don’t see it. Not in the visual or HTML editors. Could it be because of my version of WP? (2.6.2)
@Marcus Axelsson:
I’ll have a look at DMSGuestbook, to see if it is possible to integrate my plugin with it.
@Marie:
Hi 🙂 when you are in Visual Mode, you should see a new button on your toolbar like this. When you click on it, a window containing your smilies should show up.
You also said that “Only some of the smiley’s show up”. Can you zip your smilies theme package and send it to frasten AATT gmail DDOOTT com ? I want to see if there’s something wrong with it.
Thank you!!! 🙂
@Marie: also, try to follow these steps, and delete your browser cache. 😎
In my blog (WP 2.6.2) it doesn’t work. 🙁 What can I do? ;-(
And else: There is (in plugin Smilies Themer) no such smilies as in your toolbar here. ;-( What is the name of yor smilies? I see there: MSN, Yahoo, …, Kopete, … and many others (e.g. christmas smilies). But there is no smilies as yours. (U)
I did it! I wrote code:
in my comment.php file. And it works!
@Blonde: Hi!
I’m glad you did it! The theme I use is packed by me, and you can download it here.
Happy bloggin’! (B)
Hi again frasten! I sent you an email with the file like you asked me to. Have you had a chance to look at it?
